Boiling Springs Band Boosters

Minutes of January 13, 2011 Meeting

 

1.      The meeting was called to order by Mary Ann Murtoff at 7:05.

 2.      Motion to approve the minutes of September 21, 2010 as posted on the web site moved by:  Glenda Burkholder.  Seconded by:  Jane Ewing.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

  • 3.     Christy Pasquariello presented the treasurer report. Glenda Burkholder made the motion to accept the treasurer report, Pam Martin seconded. Motion passed by unanimous vote.
  •  

  • 4.     Uniforms -- A motion was made to rescind a previously passed motion to have uniforms cleaned after marching band season. Discussion was that there is not enough time to send them out.  Moved by Laurie Fitzgerald, seconded by Glenda Burkholder. Motion passed unanimously. 

    1.  Chaperones – No Report
    2.   Fundraising:

       -Since this is a trip year, all students will need to participate to lower their own cost.

       - R&K Subs (www.randksubs.com) fundraiser went well. We will offer more variety for the next round, which starts January 28. Collection will be February 7-9 and delivery will be February 17. Order forms will be posted on the website.

       -There was a discussion about selling rally towels at the basketball games.

       -We were unable to hold the dance, mostly because we were unable to get enough chaperones. We will look for a new date.

        -A suggestion was made that we consider fining a sponsor and venue for Bingo.

        -Allenberry fundraiser is ongoing. 50% of a purchase of a gift card from Allenberry will go to the band. Mary Ann Murtoff can be contacted at 258-3211.

    Other suggestions for fundraising:

      -Flowers for Spring Concert

      -Ads for Jazz Band Concert

       -Possible Tubing Day

       -Ham Dinner

       -Brusters

       -Footloose pre-sale of group tickets (Allenberry Play)

    1.  Directors Report:

          -The band Concert is January 20

          -District Band Concert is February 11 & 12 at Chambersburg

          -The spring band concert has been moved to April 28, 2011.

          - Band Trip – Trip schedule is planned starting April 29, 2011.  Location may be Boston.

           -It is time for all band members to participate in fundraising in order to be able to offset cost. 

    1. Web stats were provided by Dennis McMahon. The stats show increasing use of the site.  We will continue to populate the site and encourage our members to visit.

    Boiling Springs Band Booster

    Minutes of September 21, 2010 Meeting

     

    1. The meeting was called to order by Mary Anne Murtoff at 7:05.

     

    1. Motion to approve the minutes of May 27, 2010 as posted on the web site moved by:  Glenda Berkholder.  Seconded by:  Janice Wise.  Motion passed unanimously.

     

    1. Christy Pasquariello presented the treasurer report. Glenda Berkholder made the motion to accept the treasurer report, Pam Martin seconded. Motion passed by unanimous vote.

     

    1. Uniforms  

     

    - There was a discussion on uniform fitting. Next year, the jackets and pants will be issued separately.

    - A motion was made by Pam Martin to order two step platforms for the uniform storage area at a cost of $82.68 each. Seconded: John Fitzgerald. Motion passed unanimously.

    -There was a discussion on storage of uniforms – the manufacturer suggests they not be stored in the garment bags between games. Mary Anne Murtoff provided a suggestion made by Allenberry costume professionals. She will work with Laurie Fitzgerald to implement.

     

  • Chaperones – Janice Wiss reports there are only a few spaces left for the games. She is beginning to take names for the parades.
  •  

    1. Fundraising:

     

    -Since this is a trip year, all students will need to participate to lower their own cost.

    -There will be a fundraiser at Chili’s on Monday September 27. Information will be posted on the web site.

    -As was decided in May,  R&K Subs (www.randksubs.com) will supply the ham & cheese sandwiches for this year’s sale. Susan Meyers will coordinate.

    -Grocery cards – a new process will be implemented.  Orders will be accumulated on the 10th of each month for bulk ordering.  Information will be distributed to the students.

    -No mugs were ordered for sale because no one entered the logo contest.

    -Allenberry fundraiser is ongoing. 50% of a purchase of a gift card from Allenberry will go to the band. Mary Anne Murtoff can be contacted at 258-3211.

     

    Other suggestions for fundraising:

    - Benefit concert

    -Dance-a-thon

    -Footloose pre-sale of group tickets (Allenberry Play)

     

  • Directors Report:
  •       -8th grade night will be October 8

          -The spring band concert will be moved to April 28, 2011.

    - Band Trip – Trip schedule was changed from April 28, 2011.  A new date is pending. It is time for all band members to participate in fundraising in order to be able to offset cost.  The band will need to raise at least $4,000 to be able to afford a trip.

    -County Band is hosted at Boiling Springs January 6-8 this year. There will be a need for parent volunteers.

    1. Motion to approve the minutes of March 16, 2010 as posted on the web site moved by:  Laurie Fitzgerald.  Seconded by:  Sherry Snyder.  Motion passed unanimously.

     

    1. Christy Pasquariello presented the treasurer report. The Boosters made $264 on the Jazz Festival. Laurie Fitzgerald made the motion to accept the treasurer report, Pam Martin seconded. Motion passed by unanimous vote.

     

    1. Uniforms  - New uniforms were ordered.  A group will be organized to give out uniforms in August and to identify new care procedures.

     

    1. Chaperones – Janice Wiss will take over the chairmanship of this committee.

     

    1. Fundraising:

     

    -A motion was made by Laurie Fitzgerald to use R&K Subs (www.randksubs.com) to supply sandwiches for next year’s sale. Seconded by Pam Martin. Motion passed unanimously.

    Boiling Springs Band Booster

    Minutes of March 16, 2010 Meeting

     

    1. The meeting was called to order by Deby Lefin at 7:00.

     

    1. Motion to approve the minutes of January 12, 2010 as posted on the web site moved by:  Laurie Fitzgerald.  Seconded by:  Glenda Burkholder second.  Motion passed unanimously.

     

    1. Christy Pasquariello presented the treasurer report. The Boosters made $783 on the ham sandwich sale. Laurie Fitzgerald made the motion to accept the treasurer report, Pam Martin seconded. Motion passed by unanimous vote.

     

    1. Uniform committee will send out an e-mail requesting help for the new uniform measurements and leadership for next year.

    - A motion was made by Laurie Fitzgerald to have parents responsible to get uniforms dry cleaned after football season. Seconded by Glenda Burkholder. Passed unanimously.

     

    1. Fundraising:

     

    A motion was made by Pam Martin to contact companies which will provide pre-made sandwiches for the fall sandwich sale. Seconded by Glenda Burkholder. Motions passed unanimously.

     

    A motion was made to authorize Maryanne Murtoff to investigate and order mugs to be sold in the fall. Moved by Pam Martin seconded by Glenda Burkholder. Motion passed unanimously.

     

    Allenberry fundraiser is ongoing. 50% of a purchase of a gift card from Allenberry will go to the band. Mary Ann Murtoff can be contacted at 258-3211.

    Diana Moscato will talk to Mr. Roden and Mr. Govern to arrange a concession booth for the football season.

     

    1. Directors Report:

    -Jazz Festival is April 15. an e-mail will go out requesting volunteers. Ticket sales will be chaired by Laurie Fitzgerald. Janice Wiss will chair refreshments.

     

    -Band Banquet is May 11 - Chair is Diana Moscato

    -  Glenda Burkholder will chair tickets

    -  Decorations will be Janice Wiss and Jenny Spangler

    -  Program will be developed with the president and vice president of the band.

    -  Diana will hold a meeting to discuss details.

    -  A motion was made by Pam Martin to raise the price of the band banquet to $15 to cover costs.  Prices for children grade k-5 would be $10. Glenda Burkholder seconded.  Motion passed with one no vote from Laurie Fitzgerald.

     

    - The new uniform purchase was approved by the school board and is out for bid. Measurements should be completed in April.

     

    - Band Trip - Mr, Kenyon is researching a number of locations, including Toronto.  If we go to Toronto, students and chaperones will need either a passport or a boarder card.  Border cards for those under 18 are $35.  Over 18 are $45. Other locations being considered include Chicago. Information will be available early in the school year.

     

    Summer Lessons will begin the week after school ends. A motion was made by Christy Pasquariello to raise the price of four lessons to $25 to cover costs.  Price for a family with three students would be $60.  Glenda Burkholder seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

     

    - Band Camp will start the week of August 9. Mr. Kenyon will send out details before the end of the school year.

     

    - Web stats were provided by Dennis McMahon. The stats show increasing use of the site.  We will continue to populate the site and encourage our members to visit.

    Boiling Springs Band Boosters

    Minutes of January 12, 2010 Meeting

     

    1. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President Deby Lefin.

     

    2. Minutes of the September meeting were approved as written.

     

    3. Treasurer Report

    • Motion to accept Treasurer Report moved by: Laurie Fitzgerald, Seconded by: Pam Martin. Unanimous vote to accept.
    • Motion to request treasurer to include a column showing profit from fundraising activities was initiated by Glenda Burkholder, seconded by Janice Wiss. Motion passed unanimously.

     

    4. Uniform committee

    • Laurie Fitzgerald presented Mike Pearson, the representative from Stanbury uniforms.
    • Prototype uniform was demonstrated for comment.
    • Uniform parent representatives will be present for measurements.

     

    5. Chaperones – no report

     

    6. Fundraising

    • Glenda Burkholder gave the fundraising committee report
    • Grocery cards are available from Sharon Sites. The band makes 5% of face value.
    • Turf products are being stored for the winter.
    • The next orders for the sandwich sale are due February 5. Sandwich making day is February 16. We need more adult volunteers to be present.
    • There was not enough time to put together the Sweetheart Dance. Laurie Fitzgerald suggested we reconsider for next year.
    •  Fundraising Committee is: Glenda Burkholder (chair), Darla Lee, Diana Moscato, Sharon Sites, Sherry Snyder and Susan Snyder.

     

    7. Bylaws Modification.

    • Motion was made by Glenda Burkholder to accept the by-law changes and seconded by Diana Moscato. The motion passed unanimously.

     

    8. Band Banquet.

    • Diana Moscato is chair. She will contact parents to volunteers.
    • There are 14 seniors this year.

     

    9. Director Report

    • Mr. Kenyon will be requesting parent volunteers to help with punch and cookies after the band concert.
    • Jazz Festival is scheduled for April 15. Three bands have accepted so far.
    • Mr. Kenyon is considering a number of sites for a band trip in spring of 2011. He will provide more information as he settles on a destination and budget.

     

    The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
